LateRooms.com - Turin Celebrates Work of Secondo Pia
Travellers can discover the work of Secondo Pia at Palazzo Barolo in Turin in May, with his photos of the Shroud likely to be a highlight.
TURIN, ITALY, April 28, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- An exhibition of photographs by Seconda Pia can be seen by guests at hotels in Turin who make their way over to a show organised by the National Cinema Museum and the Museum of the Shroud in the city this spring.
The photographer is most famous for his work on the hidden qualities of the Shroud of Turin, with one set of pictures in particular highlighting what some believe to be the "true face" of the religious artefact, according to the organisers.
These images were recorded in May 1898 and can be soon at this extraordinary exhibition in the Immaginin del Sacro section of the art space.
Curated by Erica Bassignana, the show features two other areas - Tracce della Memoria and Il Colore - which offer visitors some stunning photos of Piedmont by Pia and a selection of autochrome images respectively.
Secondon Pia's photographs of the Piedmont region are highly regarded in Italy and were the first time that the area's cultural heritage was captured on film, the venue explained.
The show will be running until May 23rd and should prove to be quite a hit over the coming weeks, since the Shroud of Turin is on display in the city's cathedral, with about two million people expected to travel to see the item.
Travellers can visit this exhibition free of charge from 11:00 to 19:00 (local time) at the Palazzo Barolo.
"LateRooms anticipates heavy demand for hotel Torino due to the Secondo Pia exhibition and recommends that people attending book their accommodation early," says LateRooms head of marketing Jess Reading.
