SPLASHLIGHT ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF NEW CGI DEPARTMENT; NAMES FIRST-EVER CREATIVE DIRECTOR, JOE ZEFF
NEW YORK, NY, September 25, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Photography services provider Splashlight today announced the opening of a new CGI department that will specialize in print imagery for its growing roster of advertising, editorial and corporate clients.
As part of the announcement, Splashlight also named Joe Zeff as Creative Director, a new position at the company. As Creative Director, Zeff will oversee all creative projects for Splashlight clients, including the new CGI (Computer Generated Illustration) for Print department and other digital imagery groups. An expert in CGI for Print, Zeff worked closely with the engineers at NewTek and other companies to enhance the capabilities of their CGI software for print applications.
A world class leading resource for photography, Splashlight (www.splashlight.com) offers a full range of photographic services including studio rentals, state-of-the-art photographic equipment, digital capture, production, digital asset management, retouching services, event space and now CGI for Print.
CGI can create imagery that goes beyond the boundaries of traditional photography, using state-of-the-art CGI tools and techniques. Splashlight is the first major photography studio in New York to offer a stand-alone department that specializes in CGI for Print and will now have the ability to offer its clients more flexibility and control in the creative process.
"CGI for print is truly the next wave in photography and we know that this type of work will revolutionize the business," said Benoit Lagarde, co-founder of Splashlight. "We are pleased to have Mr. Zeff join our team and look forward to showing all of our clients what CGI can do for them."
CGI is best known as a special effects tool used in motion pictures, but the techniques used to create animation often fall short when creating images for print. A high-definition moving image contains approximately two million pixels and flickers on screen for a split second. By contrast, a typical magazine spread contains more than 14 million pixels and requires enough fine detail to endure endless scrutiny on the printed page. By integrating expertise in CGI and prepress operations, Splashlight is able to provide solutions that are expressly tailored to the demands of its advertising and editorial clients.
"With CGI, the possibilities are endless - literally limited only by your imagination," said Joe Zeff, Splashlight's new Creative Director. "Our workflow gives clients unprecedented control over the creative process and the flexibility to make changes in real time on projects that might be very costly to create, enhance or correct in real life."
The CGI department at Splashlight will also include Ed Gabel, who was named as Splashlight's first CGI Director. Zeff and Gabel are long-time collaborators, both at Time magazine and Joe Zeff Design, Inc., with experience creating art, graphics and photography for some of the world's leading publications. The new creative team can conceptualize and design entire campaigns, giving Splashlight the capacity to contribute to the creative process on a deeper level.
Last month, Splashlight completed the acquisition of Joe Zeff Design, Inc., which had specialized in CGI for Print since 2000. Joe Zeff Design, Inc. created CGI for Print for numerous high-profile editorial, advertising and corporate clients including ESPN and Unisys Corporation, both of which have already made the transition to Splashlight.
Founded in 2001, Splashlight current operates studios in New York, Los Angeles and Miami. Splashlight recently announced the opening of its new 60,000 square foot headquarters at 75 Varick Street (One Hudson Square) in Soho, and was designed with several specific suites for CGI and retouching work.
